Schools
Heating and DHW demand patterns in schools mean that reasonable care should be taken with the choice of thermal storage volume. Although DHW average demand is usually low, peaks in load demand can still be anticipated. For example, canteen operations produce demand surges around mid-day, whereas schools with sports facilities can expect shower demands after games periods.

By having larger thermal storage capacity, LoadTracker CHP is able to meet DHW peak demands. There will be less need to put the back-up boilers into service, which is all to the good: gas boilers do not generate electricity and thus cannot contribute to savings.
A further advantage of larger sized thermal storage vessels is that LoadTracker can continue to meet site electricity needs, even though site demand for heat may be low.
LoadTracker CHP has a thermal output of approximately double the electricity it produces. During periods of continuing electric demand (eg, circulating pumps, air handling units, lighting), it is necessary to have a strategy for using the resultant CHP heat, even though site thermal needs may be less than LoadTracker output. Advanced controls on the thermal storage vessel allow surplus heat to be absorbed there, ready for release to the system when the next demand peak arrives.
During the previous 12 months, SAV-Systems have carried out CHP assessments on 12 schools projects, identifying projected carbon reductions of between 12 – 24%.
The key driver to consultant interest in LoadTracker CHP for schools is to achieve the necessary reductions in CO2 emissions as required by BREEAM. This is where the assessment process comes into its own. Given sufficient data (either projected for new build or as measured for an existing installation), SAV-Systems can undertake a suitability assessment for every proposed project. By itself, the assessment process does not guarantee the suitability of any particular site. Where it does, however, the results speak for themselves.

Driven by Building Regulations, energy metering in buildings is becoming increasingly important.
SAV-Systems Watchman service not only monitors energy usage, it also keeps a building’s energy systems working at peak efficiency. Close attention to weather compensation and return temperatures are instrumental in reducing overall energy consumption.
