Housing developments have a steady DHW base load throughout the year, whereas heating load applies only during the winter months. LoadTracker CHP is able to deliver far more than just the DHW base load (a frequent CHP yardstick). Its thermal storage volume is designed to deal with demand peaks, without the plant room issues caused by over-sizing. Thermal storage controls are designed to keep vessel contents as close as possible to flow temperature, giving the thermal reserve the maximum impact.
It is desirable for system return temperatures to be kept below 60°C, and lower than this if possible. Not only does this make sense in reducing heat losses, but it also reduces the possibility of the CHP being forced off line due to over-heating.
Every reasonable effort is made to prevent the back-up boilers from coming on line, so as to maximise the usage of LoadTracker. A housing development operator can then secure the largest benefit from cheaper, site-generated electricity.
SAV-Systems have solid experience of working with designs that enable low return temperatures. SAV Heat Exchange Modules at the consumer end can deliver DHW and space heating, driving down return temperatures very effectively. Valve layouts adjacent to calorifiers can be designed to reduce diversionary flow to a minimum. This helps to avoid unwanted flow water ingress to the return.
To help landlords meet the requirements of Building Regulations Part L (energy metering in buildings), SAV-Systems offer their Watchman system. This is an energy metering and reporting service, which can be tailored by combinations of energy meters, data loggers and remote monitoring programmes.
